FORT BENNING, Ga., (Oct. 21, 2015) --Four boxing teams squared off with a total of 14 bouts at a USA Boxing-sanctioned event during a 1940s-themed Ballroom Boxing extravaganza Oct. 17 at the Uchee Creek Activity Center.

"We came to the event last time we were stationed here and loved it," said Jessica Johnson, whose husband is preparing to go to the Maneuver Captains Career Course. "I love the theme because I get to dress up, and my husband loves the opportunity to watch the different installations go against each other."

The event featured bouts between the Fort Benning Boxing Club, U.S. Military Academy men's boxing team, Fort Drum, New York, Boxing Club and Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Boxing Club to see who the best boxing team in the Army was, said Ken Wetherill, Sports, Fitness and Aquatics.

Fighting for Fort Benning were Cassandra Morris, Brandon Young, Craig Glover, Austin Kidwell, Kevin Butler, Fatai Sule, Jonathan Williams, Dianeya Nodarse, Jacob Chandler, Robert Ehrreich, Elay Vela and Timothy Lambert.

This tournament provided camaraderie between the Soldiers from different installations, said Wetherill.

The teams battled against each other in three two-minute rounds, and the Benning Boxing Club ultimately retained the belt and walked away with the overall win.

Maj. Gen. Scott Miller, commanding general of the Maneuver Center of Excellence and Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy Metheny, command sergeant major of the MCoE, presented the winner of each bout with a medal.

The Benning Boxing Club competed in 11 bouts and won 8, USMA competed in 6 bouts and won 5, the Fort Jackson Boxing Club competed in 6 and won 0, and the Fort Drum Boxing Club competed in four bouts and won 1.
