For the second time, Gary B. Carney and wife, Barbara, are departing Utah.

On April 1, 2015, Carney will retire as a Department of Defense (DoD) civilian from Tooele Army Depot (TEAD).

Moving back to Utah in March 2012, Carney was selected as the TEAD, Deputy to the Commander.

How ironic that Carney commanded TEAD as a U.S. Army, Lieutenant Colonel from July 1999 to July 2001, and while commanding at TEAD was promoted to the rank of Colonel. The historical Change of Command Ceremony for the Carney's was held in July of 2001, then moving his family to Warren, Michigan where he successfully served as the Chief of Staff for the Tank Automotive and Armament Command. Carney's last duty station was McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP), Oklahoma, were he was the plant commander.

After retiring from the U.S. Army in Oct 2007, with 30 years, at the rank of colonel, Carney became a DoD civilian serving as the Director of the U.S. Army Defense Ammunition Center (DAC), located in McAlester, Oklahoma.

Carney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from California State College of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science degree in Logistics Management from the Florida Institute of Technology. His military education included the Ordnance Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Army Command and General Staff College and a Master's in Strategic Studies from the Air War College.

"I have been fortunate to have had a career doing what I love, serving the United States Army and supporting the Warfighter," stated Carney. "I want to express my deepest appreciation to my family, friends, fellow Soldiers, and depot co-workers for all the support they have shown me over the past 37 years. It has truly been a great experience."

Carney also expressed that he was fortunate to have met and worked with the fine community leaders and supporters of not only Tooele County, but the state of Utah. "I will always cherish the memories, associations and friendships that I have had with the Tooele County Commissioners, Mayors, and many local businesses."

And so, once again the Carney's pack up their household goods and move from Tooele. But this time it will be to a permanent, much warmer place, Las Vegas, Nevada.
