ANSBACH, Germany (Jan. 7, 2014) -- 2014 was an eventful year at U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach.

USAG Ansbach celebrated holidays and observances, its community members excelled in many areas, it tackled important issues, it performed important missions and it broke new ground.

The garrison celebrated holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Women's History Month, Days of Remembrance, Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Fourth of July, Women's Equality Day, Hispanic Heritage Month, Red Ribbon Week, Halloween, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, the winter holidays and more.

Members of the USAG Ansbach team received recognition throughout the year as well. Spc. Jeromy Sisk, team member of the USAG Ansbach Provost Marshal's office, competed in the Best Warrior Competition at the Franconia Military Community and the Installation Management Command Europe levels, winning both. He moved on to the IMCOM-wide Best Warrior Competition, where he earned third place. At the IMCOM-E Topper Awards Show and Ceremony at Kaiserslautern, Germany, Ansbach's Terrace Playhouse received many nominations for its performance of "Avenue Q" and four wins for "Avenue Q," and Vicki Hanrahan, Ansbach MWR's entertainment director, won Employee of the Year.

USAG Ansbach also confronted several grave issues. The garrison, to commemorate April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, hosted a Walk to End Violence. To highlight the negative consequences of alcohol and drug abuse, the USAG Ansbach Army Substance Abuse Program hosted comedian Bernie McGrenahan April 17, 2014, for stand-up as well as discussion of some serious subject matter. In September, as part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the garrison hosted a three-kilometer run/walk at Urlas.

USAG Ansbach also oversaw the closure of two other garrisons. USAGs Bamberg and Schweinfurt held their closure ceremonies in September. This brought a chapter of nearly seven decades of German-American history to a close.

USAG Ansbach saw changes as well. The garrison broke ground on a new health and dental clinic at Urlas Housing. USAG Ansbach held a grand opening for MWR Central at the Urlas Post Exchange and for the new barracks at Bismarck Kaserne.
