TOBYHANNA ARMY DEPOT, Pa. - Tobyhanna's new liaison to the U.S Army Aviation and Missile Command took the reins of the Life Cycle Management Command office in Huntsville, Ala., about a month ago.

Travis Curtis markets depot capabilities to current and potential customers in the aviation community and manages customer relations ensuring everyone gets everything "as advertised." As a LCMC, AMCOM provides integrated engineering, logistics and contracting support to more than 90 major systems.

Curtis replaced Leo Kieczkajlo who retired.

"I intend to make sure everyone in the AMCOM community knows all about Tobyhanna," Curtis said. "There are fantastic opportunities at the depot to help the warfighter." As liaison he will support trade shows, plan visits and brief members of the aviation community.

Most of AMCOM's 8,000 civilians and 175 Soldiers work on aviation and missile systems and the supporting equipment required to operate them. The command is responsible for those systems throughout their lifecycle.

Tobyhanna supports aviation systems such as survivability radios and the AN/ALQ-144 Infrared Countermeasures. Missile systems supported include close combat weapon systems, integrated sight units, and ground missile defense.

The job description indicated the liaison should be skilled, knowledgeable, talented and confident. Paul Toth knew Curtis would be a perfect match for the position.

"I had worked with Curtis on several occasions in the past, and knew he'd be perfect for the job," said Toth, who is chief of the Product Support Division, Production Management Directorate.

Curtis has a diverse background including a 22-year career in the Army. By the time Curtis retired as a chief warrant officer 3, he had worked in short-range air defense, radar, fire control and communications electronics.

He joined the Tobyhanna work force in 2005 when he accepted a position as an Army Airborne Command and Control Systems (A2C2S) field service representative. Since then he's held positions as the A2C2S lead and FSR sustainment support coordinator, regional support manager for the Eastern Region and liaison for the Command Post Systems and Integration (CPS&I) Tactical Operation Centers Army National Guard program, experiences that provided opportunities to work with the A2C2S, TOCs and Air Defense and Airspace Management Cell systems.

"Travis has a good aviation background, knows the commodity and knows the Army-he's the real deal," Toth said. "I know he'll excel in this position."

Recently, an item manager needed help getting an item posted to their account so they could ship it to support an ongoing mission in Southwest Asia, according to Toth. Once Curtis verified that Tobyhanna had completed fabrication, he worked with the Defense Logistics Agency here to ensure the item was posted to meet the customer's suspense, he added.

AMCOM is headquartered at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., and is a major subordinate command of the Army Materiel Command. According to the command's mission statement, the organization develops, acquires, fields and sustains aviation, missile, and unmanned vehicle systems, ensuring readiness with seamless transition to combat operations. The command supports joint warfighters and allies, plus program executive officers and project managers.

The PEO Aviation is the Army manager for the Apache helicopter, cargo helicopter, utility helicopter, unmanned aircraft system, armed Scout helicopter and aviation systems programs. The PEO Missiles and Space provides centralized management for all Army tactical and air defense missile programs and selected Army Space programs.

Tobyhanna Army Depot is the largest full-service Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) maintenance and logistics support facility in the Department of Defense. Employees repair, overhaul and fabricate electronics systems and components, from tactical field radios to the ground terminals for the defense satellite communications network.

Tobyhanna's missions support all branches of the Armed Forces. The depot is the Army Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Communications-Electronics, Avionics, and Missile Guidance and Control Systems and the Air Force Technology Repair Center for ground communications and electronics.

About 5,700 personnel are employed at Tobyhanna, which is located in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania.

Tobyhanna Army Depot is part of the U.S. Army CECOM Life Cycle Management Command. Headquartered at Fort Monmouth, N.J., the command's mission is to research, develop, acquire, field and sustain communications, command, control, computer, intelligence, electronic warfare and sensors capabilities for the Armed Forces.
