ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md., (July 25, 2014) -- The U.S. Army Research Laboratory Weapons and Materials Research Directorate will host the 2014 Department of Defense Ordnance Technology Consortium Collaboration Day July 28-30, on the Aberdeen Proving Ground.
DOTC Collaboration Day bring together military, industry and academia researchers interested in improving research and information exchanges to create new partnerships, increase funding opportunities, and identify technology gaps and challenges.
Marc Pepi, the Near Net Shape Processing Team Leader who's organizing the workshop, said the event was designed to promote awareness of WMRD's science and technology capabilities and facilities. He said the event will also help ARL strengthen existing and establish new relationships with DOTC's National Armaments Consortium partnerships and networks, which include 250 traditional and nontraditional defense contractors, and academic institutions. Counted among the membership are General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, Pennsylvania State University and ATK Armaments Systems.
"As the Army's corporate laboratory, ARL provides the underpinning basic research science to inform solutions to some of the Army's most enduring challenges," said Dr. Patrick J. Baker, director of ARL's Weapons and Materials Research Directorate. "We expect the next several decades to present a series of complex protracted conflicts, and we'll face them with probably the smallest Army we've had in centuries. But our focus remains on the Soldier as the strength of Army, and our research priorities remain to protect and equip Soldiers with overmatched lethality.
"America's Soldier of the future will be more technologically savvy and equipped with beyond-future state-of-the-art capabilities to achieve mission success. ARL is essential to ensuring this happens."
DOTC is available for use by all military laboratories, program offices and other agencies for the development and prototyping of advanced concept warheads, energetics, fuzes and other related enabling weapon system technologies.
