ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. (June 13, 2014) -- 20th CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives) explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) technicians with the 759th and 710th Ordnance Companies, 3rd EOD Battalion, participated in a joint forces training exercise June 3 through 6 at San Clemente Island (SCI), Calif.
The soldiers worked in conjunction with Navy personnel from Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit THREE and the Carl Vinson Strike Group to conduct a simulated ammunition supply point detonation exercise.
Clearance operations were conducted June 4 and 5, resulting in the disposal of 284 ordnance items, which were distributed across two square kilometers (one mile).
"This exercise provided a great opportunity to work with our joint service EOD technicians and continue building the relationships necessary for the regional alignment of the 71st CBRNE Brigade Task Force (once established), with I Corps and U.S. Army Pacific in support of I Corps alignment with U.S. Pacific Command," said Brig. Gen. JB Burton, 20th CBRNE commander.
Following the clearance, Army and Navy personnel conducted an after action report with SCI range operations to gather lessons learned and reconcile the unexploded ordnance cleared from the range.
