GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria's Headquarters and Headquarters Company bid farewell to its outgoing commander, CPT Amy Becker, May 28.

CPT Andrew Higgins, arriving from 2nd Cavalry Regiment, took over for Becker as commander.

During the ceremony, Becker was surrounded by loved ones: family from North Carolina and her daughter Sabrina, whom she called "my mini-me."

While saying goodbye, Becker thanked her family for their support and she extolled the tenacity of her unit and achievements of her Soldiers.

"I must say that some of the noncommissioned officers who went through the most trials this year taught me the most about perseverance as they demonstrated the utmost professionalism when faced with adversity," said Becker.

USAG Bavaria Commander COL James Saenz emphasized Becker's dedication to her Soldiers and their well-being.

"Throughout the year, she held monthly one-on-one meetings with every Soldier, no easy task in a company spread from Grafenwoehr to Garmisch," said Saenz. "But this showed that a Soldier's welfare, as well as the welfare of the Soldier's family, is -- and always will be -- her top priority."

Saenz also welcomed Higgins to his new role.

Citing Higgins' deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, Saenz said, "I know he is more than tough enough to take on the job of HHC commander. He is ready to take care of Soldiers, enforce standards and complete the toughest missions."

During Higgins' address, he affirmed his readiness.

"I cannot wait to command the HHC Bavaria," the captain said.

Becker's next assignment is with the Military Intelligence Officer Branch Desk for Human Resources Command in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
