BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan--Maj. Gen. John F. Wharton, commanding general of U.S. Army Sustainment Command, presented medals and coins to 16 Soldiers and Department of the Army Civilians assigned to 401st Army Field Support Brigade and 3-401st Army Field Support Battalion during an awards ceremony at the Logistics Task Force Bagram Redistribution Property Assistance Team operations area May 14.
Wharton presented four Bronze Star Medals, two Combat Action Badges, three Superior Civilian Service Awards and 10 commander's coins following a tour of LTF Bagram facilities and briefings on the 401st and 3-401st missions. Command Sgt. Maj. James E. Spencer also participated in the ceremony and congratulated the awardees.
"I want you to know how proud we are of what you do," Wharton told the awardees. "I want to thank you personally for what you do. What you do is huge for units, Army Sustainment Command, Army Materiel Command, the Army, joint and coalition forces."
Wharton also said he has a "lot of confidence in you and what you do."
Bronze Star Medals and Combat Action Badges were awarded to Sgt. 1st Class Cordon Green and Sgt. 1st Class Nathaniel Maresch, Bronze Star Medals were awarded to Sgt. 1st Class Agatupu Roberson and Sgt. 1st Class Julie Romett, Superior Civilian Service Awards were presented to Jose Escolero, Gregory Kotyk and Shirley Wright. Coins from the commanding general were presented to Shirley Wright, 1st LT Jacob Albers, Master Sgt. Arnette Fuller, Sgt. 1st Class Gerald Osteen, Ron Zabawa, Damiene White, Thomas Kilian, Leon Dingbaum, Edward Farano and Jasprin Smith.
The Combat Action Badge was approved by the Chief of Staff, Army to provide special recognition to Soldiers who personally engaged, or are engaged by the enemy.
