FORT LEE, Va. -- The U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum's new education center officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony Oct. 10.
"Today marks the beginning of great things to come for the museum," said Paul Morando, museum director. "This education facility will be put to great use to teach quartermaster Soldiers where they came from."
The 4,000 square foot facility will provide a venue to conduct Soldier training and host a variety of command sponsored events. More than 15,000 Soldiers a year are expected to pass through the education facility as part of their training.
"I personally view this entire museum as a training and education center," said Brig. Gen. John E. O'Neil IV, Quartermaster General and Quartermaster School commandant. To show the importance of the historical value the museum offers, he mandated two hours of history training be conducted at the facility for all quartermaster courses.
In addition to training Soldiers, the facility will also host many educational programs for local schools. Through the center, the museum expects to provide learning opportunities that will reach 12,000 school children a year.
