VILSECK, Germany -- The Army Family Action Plan Conference, hosted by Army Community Service and U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria, is scheduled to take place Nov. 13-14. Officials are accepting issues from the community now.
This annual event provides a venue for Soldiers, civilians, family members, retirees and survivors to discuss issues submitted by community members that affect quality of life.
Since 1983, 692 issues have been submitted; out of those, 520 have been resolved.
Resolved issues have resulted in an 11 percent increase in Basic Allowance of Housing, authorized dental insurance plan for retirees and selected reservists, established a school liaison officer, and created the provision for Exceptional Family Member Program Respite Care.
These results articulate the significance of AFAP on the community while highlighting its ability to tackle tough issues facing the Army community as a whole.
Discussion of selected issues submitted for the 2014 conference will be facilitated through volunteers comprised of groups which represent community members living in USAG Bavaria.
Topics will be separated in to four main categories: Family Support/Employment, Force Support/Entitlements, Housing/Relocation/Child Youth Services, and Medical/Dental.
Within these groups, each person will be assigned a position that will bring an important role to the group such as: delegate, recorder, issue support and facilitator.
For three decades AFAP has provided valuable insight, suggestions and recommendations that have improved current policy and regulation.
When an issue is submitted to AFAP it is through the voice of the community that the Army is able to address issues affecting the quality of life for the entire Army Family.
