IMCOM CG Sends - Independence Day honors the birthday of our great nation and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It is a day of parades, barbecues, fireworks, and travel. President John Adams once wrote of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, "I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other."
Take this time to celebrate the opportunities our nation offers. Just remember to be responsible, safe, and alert. Many of you will be traveling on the roads and highways to be with Family and friends. Soldiers are reminded that the use of the online application TRIPS (Travel Risk Planning System) at https://safety.army.mil/ is mandatory if you are leaving the local area of your duty station. Everyone is encouraged to ...discuss your plans with your supervisor, and take the time to closely inspect your vehicle.
If your activities involve the use of fireworks, remember that improper handling causes severe injury and the possibility of unintentional fire is very real. Always have a plan to extinguish small, accidental fires when using fireworks. Supervision of children is a must. Know your city's rules about use within city limits.
Apply Composite Risk Management principles and anticipate the hazards of any planned activity. Supervise your Family, and let this be an accident-free holiday. Each and every one of you is a valued member of our team. Your health and safety are important to the success of our mission! Take time to implement these tips for you and your Family's safety.
