FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii--Maj. Gen. Gary M. Hara was welcomed as the Deputy Commanding General, Army National Guard, U.S. Army Pacific during a Flying "V" Ceremony at Historic Palm Circle, Fort Shafter, Hawaii June 25.
The Flying "V" ceremony traditionally welcomes or honors senior Army officials when they assume duties or depart from an Army command and refers to the way the colors are posted during the ceremony, which is V-shaped.
The ceremony was officiated by USARPAC Deputy Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Roger F. Mathews. Mathews welcomed Hara and his family into the ranks of the USARPAC Ohana.
"MG Hara's presence at USARPAC will be powerful," said Mathews, "He is the right man for the job at the right time. These are inspiring times, the Army and our (USARPAC) Headquarters are growing. I believe he will rise to the occasion."
Hara expressed his pride in joining the USARPAC Team, and his honor at officially receiving his new position on Historic Palm Circle.
"I have attended many ceremonies on this historic field," said Hara. "But this is the first I have attended that has been in my honor. I am excited to be a part of the USARPAC team."
