Where we are across the globe.
Since being stood-up in 2017, Security Force Assistance Brigades (SFABs) have provided the U.S. Army with unique capabilities and immense flexibility.
In this interview-driven film, we examine the SFAB mission, hear what life is like as an advisor, and explore the challenges SFABs will face in the future. The film features Major General Donn H. Hill, the Commanding General at Security Force Assistance Command (SFAC), as well as Lieutenant General (Ret.) Michael Lundy and other leaders from SFAC and the SFABs.
Among other topics, these leaders discuss how SFABs strengthen our allies and partner forces while supporting U.S. security objectives.
SFABs Deploy Globally
1st Security Force Assistance Brigade partnerships have spanned many foreign security force partners within the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility in Latin America. 1st SFAB teams remain persistently employed in Columbia, Honduras, and Panama with the primary goals of training, advising, assisting, and building interoperability with our partners from competition to crisis to conflict. Advisors travel episodically to four other countries in Latin America, including Guyana and Paraguay, to further our security force assistance mission in the region.
The unit will continue to employ force packages in eight month intervals in support of partners in the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility. The unit will continue its partnerships with Columbia, Honduras, and Panama, focusing on the institutional domain, integration of operations, intelligence, and sustainment, and building staff processes. The organization will continue to employ episodically to several Central and South American countries as it helps expand U.S. interests in the AOR. This expansion will increase advisor presence, build interoperability and partner capacity, and maintain the U.S. as the partner of choice.
