LODZ, Poland — For the third consecutive year, medical teams from the 4th Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) have supported the Polish Military Doctor Exercise, a rigorous field training exercise held in Lodz, Poland. This annual event, designed for the Wojskowe Centrum Ksztalcenia Medycznego Cadets, offers fifth-year medical students an intense, hands-on experience in a simulated combat environment.
The exercise is structured to challenge the Cadets, who cycle through multiple training stations, including role 1 and role 2 medical facilities and tactical combat casualty care (TCCC). These scenarios are designed to prepare the Cadets for real-world medical emergencies they may face in combat.
After the exercise, Col. Jacek Narloch presented Capt. Nicole Fuss, the 4th SFAB Medical Operations Officer and Brigade Nurse, an award recognizing her unwavering dedication and exceptional contributions to the training. This marks Fuss’ third consecutive year participating in the exercise, during which she has provided invaluable medical advisor expertise and oversight.
“By sending a specialized medical Advisor team to this event for the third consecutive year, the medical partnership between Poland and the USA continues to strengthen. We are moving beyond just interoperability and towards interchangeability,” said Fuss. “This engagement fosters medical trust and establishes vital communication with our NATO Allies, which may be essential in future combat environments.”
A highlight of the exercise was a Distinguished Visitor Day, during which Lt. Col. Andrew Rossow, the 4th SFAB deputy commanding officer-operations (DCO), toured the training facilities and observed vital demonstrations. “Visiting this exercise and witnessing firsthand how our Advisors are sharing their expertise with our NATO Allies while also observing the rigorous training of our Polish counterparts is a powerful demonstration of our commitment to interoperability. This collaboration enhances our collective readiness and solidifies the bonds essential for our shared mission,” said Rossow.
Participating in the exercise continues to show how Advisors can seamlessly integrate and become integral to our NATO Allies and Partners worldwide. The medical Advisors who participated in the training were a combination of forward-employed Advisors and those based at Fort Carson.
The ongoing collaboration between the U.S. Army, the 4th SFAB and the Polish military underscores the commitment of both nations to ensuring that their medical teams are prepared for the challenges of future combat environments.
