WIESBADEN, Germany The 4th Security Force Assistance Brigade (SFAB) convened at U.S. Army Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF) headquarters in Wiesbaden for a week-long planning conference to align Security Force Assistance operations across Europe. Hosted by USAREUR-AF G3, the event brought together key leaders and staff from USAREUR-AF, the 4th SFAB Brigade, battalion command teams, and the currently employed Force Package to collaborate on strengthening relationships with Allies and Partners across the theater.

The collaborative conference marked a significant step in streamlining mission alignment, with discussions centered on synchronizing and operationalizing Security Force Assistance throughout the region.

“Over the week, 4th SFAB was hosted by USAREUR-AF G3 in Wiesbaden for our collaborative workshop,” said Maj. Michael Dyer, the 4th SFAB brigade LNO to USAR-EURAF. “We were joined by our theater security cooperation mission partners, USAREUR-AF Staff, and the theater’s Major Subordinate Commands (MSCs) to discuss the synchronization and operationalization of Security Force Assistance. This collaborative effort yielded the initial framework for the future 4th SFAB mission alignment through FY25 and beyond. Together, we are building the bridges and relationships between the key stakeholders across the theater to support increased Allied and Partner capability and capacity.”

Maj. Aaron Huston, the bde S9, highlighted the strategic nature of the event as a building block for continued development in the security cooperation arena. “This was another great workshop where we collaborated with the Army Service Component Command (ASCC) and key stakeholders in security cooperation and development in Europe,” he added. “This workshop has been crucial to implementing a unified approach to Security Force Assistance with our Allies and Partners. We look forward to continuing to iterate on this process, expanding the workshop to the greater Security Cooperation Community.”

The gathering also facilitated high-level planning across various teams within the brigade. “Bringing together our entire brigade staff, battalion command teams, and deployed Force Packages for this conference enables us to plan at the strategic level and align our efforts with USAREUR-AF and theater partners,” said Lt. Col. Michael McLaughlin, 4th SFAB executive officer. “This high-level collaboration is essential to ensure our operations across Europe remain seamless and mission-focused, reinforcing our ability to support and enhance the capabilities of our Allies and Partners.”

Throughout the conference, leaders reiterated the impact of Security Force Assistance efforts, especially in peace and competition phases, on bolstering the Alliance's cohesion and lethality.

“Our efforts in peace and competition have a direct impact on increasing the lethality and cohesion of the Alliance to deter and, if necessary, win in conflict,” said Maj. Mike Dyer, liaison officer to USAREUR-AF. “Stronger Together.”

The conference culminated in a collaborative framework designed to guide 4th SFAB’s mission alignment across Europe through FY25 and beyond, a testament to the commitment shared among USAREUR-AF, 4th SFAB, and their Allies and Partners to build a unified and robust approach to security and defense cooperation.
