BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Brig. Gen. Scottie D. Carpenter, commanding general, 311th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), an Army Reserve unit headquartered in Los Angeles, Calif., visited the 401st Army Field Support Brigade headquarters here Dec. 24 to learn more about 401st missions and meet some of the Soldiers, civilians and contractors who provide logistics support to Soldiers and selected Coalition forces across the battle space.

Carpenter will become the commanding general for Joint Sustainment Command-Afghanistan in early 2013 and will be involved in much of the planned drawdown of forces and equipment from theater.

The 401st AFSB is charged with the retrograde of theater provided equipment valued at more than $17 billion. The 401st and JSC-A are part of a "retrograde partnership" that will focus on retrograde and transportation of equipment from theater while still maintaining equipment used by troops on a daily basis.
