YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea-- You have seen it around a lot. The phrase, "Safety first." Those who work around the clock putting your safety first enjoyed a rare chance to relax during the USAG Yongsan DES Organization Day May 4.

U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan values safety and the Directorate of Emergency Services does their best to protect the Garrison from harm. Their goal is to provide the Yongsan Community with professional, efficient and essential law enforcement, physical security, force protection, fire and emergency services support, all the while fostering a safe and secure environment.

Over 200 Servicemembers from DES including fire fighters, security guards, law enforcement, military police, and their partner Korean National Police were invited along with their families to enjoy the special day.

The party was big enough to appreciate the hard workers. Lot of food and drinks were prepared. Children enjoyed a fire truck piñata and bouncy house. USAG Yongsan Command Sgt. Maj. John Justis and incoming Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Willing were also present to show their appreciation for the DES employees who assist, protect and defend Yongsan.

Ricky Oxendine, Director of Emergency Services, explained the reason he organized the day.

"I think it is important to have this kind of day once in a while so that we can show appreciation," said Oxendine. "Most people, they come to work and they go home at 5. We are out there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We make sure our Community is safe and secure."
