FORT CARSON, Colo. -- Countless Soldiers and their Families across post will have a merrier holiday season, thanks to the generosity of Santa's Workshop.

Since 2003, the Mountain Post spouses' clubs have assisted Families on Fort Carson during the holiday season to have a joyful and bountiful Christmas.

"The purpose of Santa's Workshop is to help make it possible for every Soldier stationed at Fort Carson to provide for his or her children this holiday season," said Lilla Newton, Santa's Workshop chairperson.

The program benefits active-duty Soldiers stationed at Fort Carson with children up to 12 years old that are experiencing a financial hardship, Newton said. Hardships ranged from a Family with low income to Soldiers who have recently arrived to the Mountain Post and their finances haven't caught up, to emergency cases like those who have experienced an illness or fire.

"With continued deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and the strain this places on so many Families, Santa's Workshop will continue to benefit many Families and children this year, but we could not do this without the support of the greater Colorado Springs community," Newton said.

Col. Ryan Gonsalves, deputy commanding general for maneuver, 4th Infantry Division, has been associated with various Santa's Workshops for years and said it is a great program for the Mountain Post.

"To me, this is the best little gift ever -- to make sure Families have what they need … it's wonderful," Gonsalves said.

The Mountain Post Spouses' Club collaborated with several local area businesses such as Dragon and Dragoons, Armed Forces Bank, Home Depot, Pepsi, the Marine Corps League and the Fort Carson Thrift Shop.
