HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-- On Monday, April 20, the National Defense Industrial Association-Tennessee Valley Chapter (NDIA-TVC) presented four technology awards and four management awards to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the Defense Technology Base of this community. Two of these eight awards went to U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command employees.
John R. London of the USASMDC/ARSTRAT Technical Center (TC) received a technology award for his work on nanosatellite-class technology, and Ivan S. Romero of the Initiatives and Innovations Division of the USASMDC/ARSTRAT TC received a management award.
The NDIA-TVC Technology Awards are presented annually to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Defense Technology Base or who have significantly advanced technology into the hands of the Warfighters within the past two years.
London, who serves in the space division of the USASMDC/ARSTRAT TC, works on developing nanosatellite-class technology space-based solutions for the ground component warfighter.
London's efforts are focused on nanosatellite technology development deployed in low earth orbit as a means to provide low-cost, persistent, highly responsive capabilities to the ground component warfighter. His guidance of the technical approach for these innovative efforts, and the coordinating achievements, have been a significant contribution to the defense posture of the United States.
"This was a great honor and I was grateful to have some of my family here to share in the event with me," London said. "However, this award was truly earned by the entire Nanosatellite Technology Team within the Tech Center."
The NDIA-TVC Management Awards are presented annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to the Defense Technology Base or who have contributed to a project that places urgent capability into the hands of the warfighter.
Romero, the USASMDC/ARSTRAT management award recipient, is the associate director for the Technical Interoperability and Matrix Center (TIMC) and as the chief for the new Initiatives and Innovations Division of the TC. Romero is responsible for the management, budget and oversight of seven directorates.
Applying his extensive skills in management and years of research and development experience, he revamped and streamlined diverse processes within TIMC. He create a single standardized allocation system, which led to the success of many TIMC science and technology programs.
"It is a great honor to receive this award in many ways. First, to be nominated by my management and second to be recognized by the Huntsville technical community," Romero said.
"I am also blessed to be in a job where in addition to the opportunity to do what I enjoy doing, I'm involved in the forefront of technology development to support our primary customer, the warfighter," he continued.
Romero's achievements have dynamically increased the ability of USASMDC/ARSTRAT to influence and leverage technology development and place these developments in the hands of the warfighter.
