PBCA to receive first AMC safety award

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The Pine Bluff Chemical Activity at Pine Bluff Arsenal has been awarded the first U.S. Army Accident Prevention Award of Accomplishment in Safety from the U.S. Army Materiel Command.

An award ceremony recognizing the PBCA workforce will be conducted April 2 at 2 p.m., in Creasy Auditorium, located just outside the main gate of the Pine Bluff Arsenal. The award will be presented to Lt. Col. Cliff Johnston, PBCA commander.

This is a significant accomplishment for the Activity since a majority of the workforce is responsible for the transport of chemical weapons to the Pine Bluff Chemical Agent Disposal Facility for destruction.

There will also be a presentation of the PBCA 2008 Safety Person of the Year.

Representing PBCA higher headquarters will be Conrad F. Whyne, director of the U.S. Army Chemical Materials Agency.

Other significant safety accomplishments by the PBCA workforce include:

* The 2008 Accumulative Years Safety Award from the Arkansas Department of Labor and the Arkansas Insurance Department

*PBCA has reduced OSHA recordable accidents from six in 2006 to three in 2007, and four in 2008.
