FORT STEWART, Ga. -- Leaders from Army Field Support Battalion-Stewart and 3rd Infantry Division visited Tobyhanna Army Depot, Defense Logistics Agency Susquehanna (New Cumberland) Depot, and BAE Systems, Nov. 16-19.

The visits helped participants understand the capabilities of the Army's Organic Industrial Base, industry partners and strategic level logistics. The trip marked the beginning of a leader development initiative to partner logistics leaders from the AFSBn-Stewart's footprint to understand and leverage logistic capabilities across the Army.

Tobyhanna Army Depot is one of Communications-Electronics Systems and Equipment Command's premier depots and is located in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania. Through discussions with the command, the team identified ways AFSBn-Stewart, CECOM and Tobyhanna Army Depot could link the strategic industrial base to 3rd Inf. Div. and the units AFSBn-Stewart supports in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

They also visited the Defense Logistics Agency Susquehanna (New Cumberland) Depot, the Department of Defense's largest distribution facility. The group gained a greater understanding of the strategic logistics capabilities available within the DoD.

The last site visit was to BAE Systems in York, Pennsylvania. There, the team gained an understanding of the capabilities of the Army's industry partners. They researched opportunities to bring capabilities of industry partners to 3rd Inf. Div. and the units in the AFSBn-Stewart footprint.

BAE Systems provided an in-depth overview of its depot capabilities and the company's Field Support Representatives capabilities and initiatives. The facility tour highlighted the capabilities of Original Equipment Manufacturing partners and skill sets available to the Army to help sustain warfighting capabilities. The tour also provided the team with an opportunity to see several new warfighting systems in their infancy.

The visits gave the leaders a new perspective into capabilities available at the strategic level that can be leveraged to enhance warfighters on the tactical level. The knowledge gained through this leader development promises to bring a new level of readiness to the 3rd Inf. Div. along with other units supported by AFSBn-Stewart.
