REDSTONE ARSENAL, Alabama -- One U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command officer was recognized for all he has done in his career for Army resource management.

Col. Donald M. Cook, USASMDC/ARSTRAT deputy chief of staff G-8, and Army Comptroller Program class of 1996 graduate at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University in New York, received the 20th Lt. Gen. McCall Award during a ceremony Aug. 6.

"I'm humbled to have even been nominated, let alone be selected to receive the McCall Award," Cook said. "I don't even know who submitted my name, but I received a call letting me know I was the selectee this year. It was truly a surprise."

The McCall Award is named after and honors retired Lt. Gen. James F. McCall, former comptroller of the Army and a 1970 graduate of the Army Comptrollership Program. McCall was a strong advocate of financial management professional development while in service and even after his retirement from active duty. The award recognizes a graduate of the program who has made significant contributions to the Army resource management profession.

"When I graduated, Lt. Gen. McCall was the speaker at the ceremony so this is quite an honor to receive the award named after him," Cook said. "Whatever I say at the ceremony doesn't really matter, what is important just the demonstration of the continuity of the program and the value the Army gets out of it."

Cook was also the recipient of the Fiscal Year 2014 Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller) Capstone (Military) and Military Comptroller Award. The award cited Cook for his outstanding contributions to the field of resource management.

Cook acknowledged his team and said although the award was for him, he is accepting it on behalf of all the team members he has worked with in his career as they accomplish the mission of supporting the Warfighter.

"Receiving this is directly as a result of the superb teamwork here," Cook said. "I am lucky enough to represent all that they do for SMDC and the Army."
