U.S. ARMY, EUROPE PERSONNEL TO TAKE FOREIGN LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT AS PART OF DoD INITIATIVE

By U.S. ARMY EUROPE, Public Affairs OfficeJuly 20, 2015

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- U.S. Army Europe officials have announced that all

USAREUR Soldiers are required to take an online survey by January 15 to assess their

language capabilities.

USAREUR civilian employees are being encouraged to take the survey as well.

According to an Army Human Resources Command release, the one-time selfassessment

of foreign language skills is part of a DoD initiative to improve foreign

language expertise and get an accurate measurement of the language capabilities of DoD

personnel.

The survey is designed "to close the data gap between traditional means of recording

language capabilities and expertise acquired by other than formal Army/Department of

Defense training or testing," states the release.

The survey consists of a handful of basic questions about respondents' language fluency.

Officials stressed that completing it does not provide a language certification or qualify

respondents for foreign language pay.

There are several ways the survey can be found. A link is available for Soldiers and

civilians on the USAREUR home page at www.hqusareur.army.mil.

Alternately, there are separate addresses for Soldiers and civilians. Soldier can go to

https://perscomnd04.army.mil/LangSurv.nsf/LangSurvCentOpen?OpenForm . Civilians

can access the survey via the "employee data" tab on their "My Biz" accounts at Army

Civilian Personnel Online at www.cpol.army.mil.
