On the final Monday in May, we, as a nation, honor the sacrifice of our fallen men and women in uniform. We honor their lives, their courage, their legacy and their service. The freedoms every American enjoys today have been guaranteed by the sacrifice of our fallen Service members. Although Memorial Day is a dedicated holiday, we should remember and honor our fallen Service members every day.

Memorial Day, and the long weekend associated with this holiday, is often considered the unofficial start of the summer season. Many of you will take the opportunity to enjoy a family barbecue, hiking and camping, a road trip, and a variety of activities in between. Enjoy this well-earned holiday, but please do so safely. Traditionally, the summer is the most hazardous season with notable increases in off-duty accidents, and you are much too valuable to our Western Regional Medical Command Team.

Command Sergeant Major Marshall Huffman and I want you to ensure the safety of yourself, your family, colleagues and friends. So before you begin your holiday plans, we encourage you to review important safety information at the Army Safety/Combat Readiness Center Website: https://safety.army.mil.

In your Memorial Day celebrations, please keep two things in mind: safety, and the memory of our fallen Service members. Enjoy the holiday weekend!

One Team … One Mission!
