BOULDER, Colo. -- Across five miles of rolling hills and under a bright blue sky, Capt. Meghan Curran once again proved she is worth her weight in athletic gold.

Curran, female winner of the 39th Annual Marine Corps Marathon in 2014, finished the 2015 Armed Forces Cross Country Championships in 10th place, helping her All-Army teammates win the title of women's champions. "There are different divisions of the competition, and we participated in the open race. Each branch of service has a team and we ran against all of them," explained Curran, who is assigned to 3-314th Field Artillery (Thunder) Battalion, 72nd Field Artillery Brigade, Division East, First Army.

The cross country course at Boulder's Flatirons Golf Course is roughly 5,400 feet above sea level.

"This was the second time running this course, and it's kind of tough coming from sea level and going there and running," said Curran, who is stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. "But, most of the runners came from places that made it difficult to run at this altitude."

The Army's six-woman team had Curran running alongside Spc. Caroline Jepleting from Landstuhl, Germany; Pfc. Susan Tanui from Fort Riley, Kansas; 1st Lt. Chelsea Prahl from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Maj. Emily Potter from Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and Capt. Ashley Hall from Fort Benning, Georgia.

"Last year we came in third, so this is our second year competing in this race," she said. "After a while you get to know the other runners and you develop this friendly competitiveness and rivalry, which makes it a lot of fun."
