This Presidents' Day we salute the leadership and achievements of all those who have held America's highest elected office, serving as our President and Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces. As we remember our former leaders and enjoy the holiday weekend, we must also integrate safety principles into all activities.

Many of you will take advantage of the long weekend to travel, participate in winter sports, or catch up on household chores. Whatever you do, keep safety in mind and take the necessary precautions against possible hazards like adverse weather conditions, fatigue, speeding, vehicle failure, and impaired or distracted driving.

The challenges of harsh winter weather and associated driving hazards serve to increase the risks this time of year. Conduct pre-holiday safety briefings, giving special emphasis to the challenges of associated driving hazards and harsh winter weather. Leaders should emphasize the use of tools and resources that can assist in planning leisure activities and manage risk available on the US Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center website at https://safetv.army.mil. Also, cold weather injury prevention tools are available at the following Public Health Command website: http://phc.amedd.army.milltopics/discond/cip/Pages/ColdCasualtieslnjuries.aspx.

Your dedication and professionalism continue to make us "Army Safe and Army Strong." Please enjoy a safe holiday weekend.
