CAMP CARROLL, South Korea -- The Army Field Support Battalion -- Northeast Asia, hosted a peninsula-wide Army Prepositioned Stocks-4 Tactical Exercise Without Troops/Logistics Terrain Walk to review the APS-4 Armored Brigade Combat Team issue process here recently.

The event included participants from 8th U.S. Army, 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Defense Logistics Agency, U.S. Army Medical Materiel Command and Materiel Support Command Korea.

AFSBn-NEA began planning for the TEWT/Logistics Terrain Walk in early August with the first In Progress Review being conducted Aug. 21. The first IPR participants were the commander and key leaders of AFSBn-NEA, and the intent of that initial IPR was to capture the key objectives and build the basic framework for the actual exercise.

"Although it was a lot of hard work, I am truly proud of the response and interaction from the guests," said Charlotte Kizer, S3 Operations, AFSBn-NEA. "The effort put forth and the professional way the Logistics Terrain Walk was executed makes me proud to be a part of AFSBn-NEA."

Following the first IPR, invited units agreed to participate in future IPRs to facilitate the planning for the exercise.

In the planning phase, the exercise titled APS-4 ROC Drill changed to, "AFSBn-NEA TEWT/Logistics Terrain Walk." Specifically, the scope focused on the process of drawing the Korea-based Armored Brigade Combat Team unit set, under contingency conditions, in a time constrained environment. Following an orientation, participants walked through the APS-4 issue yard staged with three complete company unit identification codes (consisting of vehicles, basic issue items, weapons, communications equipment, etc.), to portray a representative layout during a contingency draw.

Participants walked through the issue process and supplementary processes consisting of ammunition upload, vehicle fueling, and railhead operations. Participating units briefed their specific roles in the issue process.

Two Materiel Support Command-Korea's subordinate units briefed their individual unit plans for contingency operations. The 6th Ordnance Battalion briefed the ammunition upload plan and the 25th Transportation Battalion, MSC-K, briefed the transportation coordination for rail and line haul. The Supply and Transportation Directorate then briefed rail uploads and tie-down procedures.

"The event was one of the most enjoyable, informative, and impeccably organized events I have had the pleasure of witnessing," said U.S. Air Force Capt Andrew Gill, Defense Logistics Agency, Camp Walker, South Korea. "The AFSBn -- NEA APS-4 staff's [recent] DA Level wins in both the Supply and Maintenance categories are truly a testament to their exceptional work ethic and professionalism."

Key leaders participating in the event included Brig. Gen Jeffrey Drushal, J-4, U.S. Forces Korea, Col. Ronald Green, G-4, 8th U.S. Army, and several members of the Republic of Korea G-4 (Logistics) staff.
