YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea -- Eighth Army leaders discussed the future of their Soldiers, Civilians, and families during an on-site conference held at the Dragon Hill Lodge, Oct. 29-30.

Hosted by Eighth Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Bernard S. Champoux, the two-day conference consisted of team-building physical readiness training (PRT), Grab-and-Go breakfast provided by Honor's Café-Yongsan Dining Facility, briefings, discussions, and social events.

"PRT is always a pleasurable thing to do as it makes us fit and ready," Col. Philip E. Sheridan, Eighth Army Deputy Sergeant said. "I enjoyed this morning's circuit drill because I liked the team aspect and the competitiveness of the event."

During discussions, leaders and spouses from Eighth Army and major subordinate commands in Korea addressed many service-wide and peninsula-specific subjects ranging from the Performance Triad to U.S. Army's Ready and Resilient Campaign.

"This is the time for us to reflect and think about who we are individually and collectively, and where we have to go," Champoux said. "Also, that you can express how you are thinking about the vision makes the event important."

The leaders also focused on orientating and understanding Eighth Army's way by setting the common goals and the keys to fulfill the requirements.

"I was excited when we got here together to share years of experience in this room…and I was impressed by who we were," Champoux said.

Eighth Army Command Sgt. Maj. Ray Devens put an emphasis on the responsibility that all the leaders had to carry. "What Eighth Army is all about is in this room. What every single person here does represents what Eighth Army is all about to the rest of the Army and people."

The conference provided the leaders with an opportunity to invest in initiatives to develop their leadership for future endeavors.

"It is a great experience. It is great to sit down with all the senior leaders in Eighth Army and get a common vision, and learn more about this great team," Sheridan added.

Gen. (R) Paik Sun-Yup, the honorary Eighth Army Commander and the Republic of Korea Army's first four-star general, who attended the conference, echoed Sheridan's view during his speech. "I am honored to attend this event…and thank you for taking a long trip from United States to my home country, Korea."
