FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Gen. Daniel B. Allyn, commanding general, U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) hosted an Assumption of Responsibility Ceremony today for Command Sgt. Maj. Scott C. Schroeder, who assumed duties as the FORSCOM command sergeant major.
Schroeder, 53, returns to Fort Bragg, where he had served previously with the 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, deploying to Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Schroeder's most recent assignment was as the command sergeant major for III Corps and Fort Hood at Fort Hood, Texas.
During his remarks welcoming Schroeder and his family to the command and Fort Bragg, Allyn said of Schroeder - who has served 58 months in combat as a battalion, brigade, division or corps sergeant major since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began - "Dedicated and engaged, he is a leader of decisive action who lives the non-commissioned officer creed in word and deed. In combat he displays the fortitude required to complete the mission while providing a model of inspiring leadership."
Schroeder said he would focus his efforts on ensuring squad leaders and platoon sergeants at companies, troops and batteries and their commanders - the ones "at the dangerous end of the handset" are led, trained and equipped to face their mission's dangers.
"We must not forget or take for granted that Forces Command troopers - no matter what time of day or day of the week it is - are deployed in harm's way and they are protecting America's freedoms," said Schroeder.
Schroeder replaces Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher Greca, who now serves as the senior enlisted advisor for U.S. Central Command.
FORSCOM is the Army's largest command and prepares conventional U.S. Army forces to provide a sustained flow of trained and ready land power to Combatant Commanders in defense of the Nation at home and abroad.
