Fort Leonard Wood is hosting the first Show-Me Heroes Employer Spotlight career fair that connects interested Missouri businesses with veterans and service members seeking employment or transitioning out of the military.

Ameren, St. Louis, a company that supports renewable energy, is seeking engineers and nuclear security officers for the event scheduled 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 20 in Thurman Hall, Bldg. 3203, Room 3035.

The Missouri Division of Workforce Development in partnership with the Missouri National Guard administers Show-Me Heroes, which was started by the Missouri Governor and Adjutant General of the Missouri National Guard.

"The mission is simple . . ." said 1st Lt. Jonathan Barry, Show-Me Heroes director, Missouri Division of Workforce Development. " . . . to connect Missouri's veterans and service members with meaningful careers throughout the state and to connect Missouri businesses with highly trained veteran and service member job seekers."

Show-Me Heroes Employer Spotlight provides employers the opportunity to present their organization and opportunities for those leaving the military at Fort Leonard Wood or seeking employment in the civilian industry.

"In this case, Ameren has great opportunities for engineers and highly qualified security personnel," Barry said. "Fort Leonard Wood is home to both."

Engineers must have Bachelor of Science in engineering (electrical, civil, mechanical or petroleum) from an accredited college or university.

Nuclear security officers must be able to meet all regulatory, security and physical and agility requirements.

"Based on the open positions, Fort Leonard Wood is a natural fit and perfect chance to test the concept," Barry said.

More than 3,800 state employers have taken the Show-Me Heroes pledge and many have expressed interest in hosting exclusive events like this, according to Barry.

"This is the first in what I hope to be a regular series of events at both Fort Leonard Wood and Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.," Barry added.

To register for the inaugural event on post, Barry suggests emailing a resume or credentials to daniel.a.danzo.civ@mail.mil. A light lunch will be provided so an accurate count of attendees is needed.

It is also recommended that those attending the event bring copies of their resume.

The dress code is civilian business attire, ACUs or service-equivalent uniform.
