FORT RUCKER, Ala. (March 14, 2014) -- Girls Night Out, a veteran event hosted each fall and spring by the Fort Rucker Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, was a hit once again with patrons describing the fun as "amazing," "considerate" and "entertaining."

Two hundred and eighty patrons enjoyed the nightlife at The Landing's ballroom March 7 with 38 vendors from local shops, hospitals, home business and spas.

"It went great. It was a lot of fun," said Kristi Fink, DFMWR special events coordinator. "The ladies really enjoyed the dancing with the (disc jockey), and there were tons of giveaways, so I am sure they loved that, too."

This year a photo booth was added to the camaraderie, which Fink said was a massive hit.

"There was a huge line to use it all night," she said. "We are glad they liked it so well because we have some new ideas for the fall, too, and we are excited to see them come to fruition."

Shawna Mack, Party Gals representative, was a first-time vendor, but long-time Girls Night Out patron who decided to bring her business to the event because she thought it would be the perfect outlet to showcase her wares.

"Girls Night Out is so much fun and there are always so many people," she said. "It is the perfect atmosphere for my booth and, so far, it's been great. It was really worth the money to rent the space."

The event, she added, is a great idea for those new to the area because they don't know what is in the area, and that ladies feel more comfortable with it being a women-only occasion.

"Women really need to hit it up. If you didn't come this time you better show up in the fall, you're missing a really good time," she said.

Tracey Landa, Army spouse, said she loved the event because it gave her the opportunity to hang out with friends that she doesn't get to see very often.

"I never get to do anything by myself, I am always home with my kids, so I wanted to take a little break for me," she said. "It's really great that they have an event that focuses on female habits, issues and health."

Many were happy there was a large variety of vendors and businesses.

"It has been great to let loose a little bit. Life as a military spouse is hard, but we all smile and drive on and do what we have to do, so it's nice that they recognize our needs, too," said Landa. "No one stays very long at Fort Rucker, so spouses should enjoy their time here to the fullest.

"You can meet so many new people here, see different types of booths, get updated information on our health and just have an upbeat night for yourself," she continued.

She said it showed outstanding quality of service for the installation to bring everything in for their convenience, because to have a night out many would have to drive to Dothan, which is oftentimes a deal breaker.

"Thank you, Fort Rucker, for thinking of us," said Landa.
