SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii -- Country music singer Toby Keith took time to visits Soldiers in 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, "Steel", 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, during their field exercise, and fire a M119 105mm towed howitzer here, May 4.

For years Toby Keith has been touring and performing for Soldiers, but taking the time out of his schedule to do visit them in the field is just that much better.

"It shows the troops how much the stars care about what they do on a daily basis," said Sergeant 1st Class Daniel Bates, 3-7 FA, 3rd BCT, 25th ID.

Everyone knew he was coming out, but the weather made it a little unclear whether or not this visit was going to happen.

"We weren't sure if he was coming out because of the rain, but he come out here in the pouring rain and stuck with us," said Pfc. Travis Guernsey, 3-7 FA, 3rd BCT, 25th ID.

By showing up despite the rain, Keith gave the moral of Soldiers of the "Never Broken" battalion a boost.

"Coming out in the rain shows he cares for the brothers in arms, he really pumped us up," said Guernsey. "This round was the best we fired all day."

When its all said and done, having a star like Toby Keith come out to visit soldiers in the rain makes the weather not so harsh.

"To come out here field and on top of that, in this weather you couldn't ask for more," said Bates.
