Introduction

The Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Communications Awards Competition recognizes Soldiers and Department of the Army civilian employees for excellence in achieving the objectives of the Army Public Affairs Program. On behalf of the Secretary of the Army, the Army Communications and Outreach Office conducts the competition annually in order to recognize, cultivate and inspire excellence within the Army public affairs community.

The KLW Competition aligns as closely as possible with the annual Defense Media Awards, establishes competition criteria and provides the Army with guidance for recognizing the most notable work of its public affairs professionals. The competition includes the Army’s Community Relations Awards program and Sgt. Maj. Dawn Kilpatrick Memorial AUSA Scholarship.

A Message from the Army Communications and Outreach Office

We are honored to share the results of the Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Communications Awards Competition. Please join Director Hodson, Col. Butler and Sgt. Maj. Ferguson in congratulating each of our winning Soldiers and civilians.

A special thanks is also extended to the many dedicated PA and VI leaders who serve as judges for the competition. This annual competition serves as a testament to the talent across our PA community — at every echelon and in our civilian, active, Guard and Reserve ranks — and to the pride each and every one of our members takes in communicating Army priorities.

The top honors in most of our categories are now at the Defense Media Activity for judging in the Defense Media Awards competition.

Prominently displayed on the colors are the broadsword, crossed quill, and lightning flash, representing public affairs, journalism, and broadcasting, while underscoring the tactical value and impact that disseminated information has on combat readiness. Approved June 18, 2013, the Chief of Public Affairs Colors serve as the office's positional colors within Headquarters, Department of the Army. U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Bernardo Fuller.
