FORT RILEY, Kan. " Three-year-old Branden Stokes was all smiles while he rode on the boat ride June 9 during the Victory Carnival, which was June 9 to 11 at Rally Point Field.

His mom, Spc. Taquela Dockins, 172nd Chemical Company, 541st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, said she brought him to the carnival to spend time with him.

Dockins said her son’s favorite rides were the motorcycles and “Go Gator.”

Nanny Amber Peasly also decided to take 3-year-old Kyle and 10-month-old Kacey Kidd to the carnival.

“I was on my way to their house, and I saw it, and I was like ‘we have three hours to kill tonight, absolutely that’s what we are doing,’” she said.

The Kidd’s are the children of Kellie and Lt. Col. Chris Kidd, commander, 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Inf. Div.

The three-day event included carnival rides, activity booths, games and food. Musical performers took the stage each evening including Chappie, a local one-man musical act; The Rockin’ Ink Tour, which included Modern Superstar and Gypsy Pisteleros; and Controlled Detonation, the 1st Inf. Div. rock band.

More than 6,000 people attended the first-time event.

“It was wonderful. People had a great time,” said Brad Carlton, recreation program manager, Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation.

Due to inclement weather, the first night of the event was a little slow, but attendance picked up during the evening hours on the last two days, Carlton said.
