CAMP DARBY, Italy -- The Camp Darby Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program has once again taken first place for best event and best installation in the "x-small garrison" category at the annual EURO BOSS Conference.
The event that took place May 10-14 in Schwetzingen, Germany, included BOSS representatives from garrisons across Europe.
"I am proud of the efforts of our single service members on Camp Darby to be part of a program that makes a concrete difference in troops lives through quality of life initiatives, community service programs and recreational events," said U.S. Army Garrison Livorno Command Sgt. Maj. Felix Rodriguez. "Camp Darby's BOSS program has a long history of being recognized as one of the top x-small garrisons BOSS programs in Europe and at DA level."
However, the conference was not just about competing; it was also an excellent opportunity for BOSS presidents, FMWR BOSS advisors and senior enlisted BOSS advisors to get training, according to Ernest Johnson, a conference facilitator from the Bamberg BOSS program.
"Representatives from Department of Army BOSS spoke to the attendees about the 'I AM STRONG' tour and the new Warrior Zone program along with updates about the BOSS President position on the Table of Distribution and Allowances or TDA," said Johnson. "Additionally, they learned about proper budgeting, how to do break even analysis, cash and petty cash control and procurement."
"This Europe wide forum was a great chance to learn how to tweak and improve our BOSS program along with finding creative ways to continually engage new troops into participating in the program," said Airman 1st Class Daryl Perales, Camp Darby BOSS president. "I got some good ideas from the FMWR facilities and BOSS partnership session that I'm looking forward to integrating into the Camp Darby BOSS program."
Johnson added that the Europe conference was in preparation for the August 2010 DA BOSS conference in Phoenix, Ariz. where BOSS presidents from installations across the world will compete.
