FORT CARSON, Colo.-For the past 20 years, Fort Carson has given back to the local community by cooking dinners that are served to the public.
More than 250 turkeys, along with the fixings, were delivered to a DFAC to be prepared. The Salvation Army provided food for Soldiers to cook enough to feed 4,500 people.
"I don't know what we would do without Fort Carson's help," said Alma Scott, Salvation Army coordinator. "This means so much to so many, and I could never thank the Soldiers enough."
Garrison Commander Col. Robert F. McLaughlin; his wife, Cindy; and Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. James A. Kilpatrick volunteered in the serving line at the Yuma Street location of the Salvation Army.
"(We) are proud to represent the Soldiers of Fort Carson and serve with the volunteers of the Salvation Army," McLaughlin said in remarks at the Salvation Army site. "It's a pleasure for us to be part of this community."
A total of 29 Soldiers from 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division; 43rd Sustainment Brigade; and 759th Military Police Battalion volunteered for the event.
Nine additional volunteers delivered the food to six Salvation Army locations, including the Yuma Street location.
