Fort Irwin, Calif. – on July 18th, 2024 Brig. Gen. Brandon C. Anderson became the 24th Commanding General of the National Training Center (NTC) and Fort Irwin in a ceremony that included his wife, children, and extended family.
Fort Irwin and the U.S. Army National Training Center’s mission is to prepare our nation’s fighting forces for global conflict. Anderson, originally an artilleryman, with multiple combat deployments, was selected to command NTC due to his extensive leadership and experience in Combined Armed Combat said Lt. Gen. Stephen G. Smith, who officiated the event.
Smith, the Deputy Commanding General of NTC’s higher headquarters, U.S. Army Forces Command, referred to NTC as the “National Treasure Center” and stated that “the final piece of the puzzle is Brig. Gen. Brandon Anderson in command.”
Anderson’s previous assignments include serving as the Deputy Commanding General of 2nd Infantry Division (South Korea), 1st Corps Chief of Staff, and a pair of Field Artillery Brigades. “I can attest that your better half is sitting next to you, it’s Gina that keeps you afloat and that family afloat,” said Smith; a reference to the importance of the support and service that Army Families sacrifice on our nation’s behalf.
Col. Lane A. Bomar, Fort Irwin’s Garrison Commander, held NTC’s Command in interim until he handed the unit’s colors to Smith, who then bestowed the honor onto Anderson, who enthusiastically accepted.
“I’ve been waiting 26 years for HRC (Army Human Resources Command) to assign me here,” said Anderson. In vivid detail, he recalls his first experiences as a lieutenant on his first NTC rotation during his acceptance speech here, at 30:30: https://fb.watch/tqDjESwuxX/
Anderson thanked Barstow Mayor, Dr. Paul Anthony Courtney, and distinguished visitors for attending, but was overly grateful to the Soldiers, Family, and Civilians that make Fort Irwin the “National Treasure Center.”
