FORT CARSON, Colo. — Soldiers and Family members lined up at Iron Horse Park at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 26, 2023, to take part in the annual Fort Carson Color Fest.

The early start did not dampen the enthusiasm of the people who came out for the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation 5K run, as they took off from the starting line excited to get their first splash of color.

While most runners were eager to get splashed with colored powder, others did their best to dodge to avoid getting a blast of color on them.

Heidi Domi said she and her daughters were looking forward to participating in the Fort Carson color run after the family participated in a run at the U.S. Air Force Academy last month. Domi noted these type of running events are keeping her family active and the addition of the color powder makes running more enjoyable.

Friends Brittany Gregory and Morgan Johnson saw the 5K as an opportunity to add to their fitness routine. Gregory said it was a great opportunity to exercise with other members of the community.

Spc. Malik Brown, who took part in MWR’s Turkey Trot shortly after arriving at Fort Carson, said one of his biggest objectives for the color run was to see if he could better his time now that he’s more acclimated to the Colorado altitude.

As runners crossed the finish line it was evident many were pleased with finishing the 5K race and proud of the color shower that coated their clothing.
