Fort Leonard Wood Homes — the on-post housing partner — is only handling life, health, and safety work orders at this time. Maintenance services and amenities available to residents are temporarily limited as a health precaution due to COVID-19 prevention measures.
According to Facility Manager Ron Hesteness, residents are still encouraged to call in urgent and emergency work orders, to include malfunctioning climate-control systems and plumbing or sewage issues. Tenants are asked, however, to self-report cold or flu-like symptoms when making the request.
Hesteness said that maintenance workers are taking precautions to ensure everyone stays healthy.
“We are making sure all of our workers are not showing any symptoms or signs of illness when they show up for work,” he said. “All of our workers are also going to have masks available if needed, as well as rubber gloves, booties and hand sanitizer.”
Hesteness added that employees may utilize gloves and masks while in homes or handling transactions in the office, but it does not mean they are sick.
Along with limitations on maintenance services, certain amenities will be unavailable until further notice.
“As of right now, all of our LifeWorks events have been cancelled,” said Community Manager Jason Williams. “Common areas such as the gym and conference rooms are off limits until further notice.”
According to Williams, residents are also temporarily unable to sign out buildings for events.
“Residents could sign our buildings out for events — birthday parties, retirement parties,” he said. “They can no longer do that until further notice.”
Self-help supplies are limited for now as well, Williams added.
“Picking up items such as lightbulbs, air filters and batteries is suspended,” he said. “Residents still have access to outdoors stuff such as mulch, dirt and salt if needed.”
However, maintenance workers are still making efforts to improve homes and communities.
“We’ll be getting caught up on a lot of exterior maintenance work,” Hesteness said. “We are going to be doing preventative maintenance of exterior siding and gutters by street.”
Additionally, maintenance workers are still preparing vacant homes for new occupants.
“Right now, we have no limitations on turnover maintenance,” Hesteness said. “When people move out we are making the house ready to rent — cleaning them and all that.”
Fort Leonard Wood Homes’ offices are open for business-essential purposes, but patrons are asked to utilize hand sanitizer upon entering and exiting the facility. Residents are also encouraged to take advantage of online services available through the resident portal at https://www.rentcafe.com/residentservices/apartmentsforrent/userlogin.aspx.
“As things change, we’ll get updated,” Williams said. “We will let the residents know if things change through the portal and through email.”
