FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. Officials from the Army University participated in discussions on how to improve processes and expand collaboration in the areas of licenses, credentials, apprenticeships, military credit transfer with members of the Multi-State Collaborative on Military Credit Oct. 7 and 8 at Rosemont Illinois.

During the organization's annual convening, State Higher Education Executive Officers and institution staff members (many of them veterans) from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, heard from representatives of the Army University, Credential Engine, the Council for Experiential and Adult Learners (CAEL), Strada Education Network, and the Higher Learning Commission.

The Multi-State Collaborative on Military Credit is an initiative of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact. The mission is to facilitate an interstate partnership of 13 states and to translate competencies acquired by service members and veterans through military training and experiences toward meaningful college credits. States exchange information and share best practices in the areas of articulation of credit, certification and licensure, communication, and data and technology. There are several standards that the Multi-State Collaborative on Military Credit and the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements have in common that are designed to protect and benefit students, one example being processes for student complaints.

Both groups work to assist military-connected students and provide benefits to states and institutions carrying out distance education. State agencies seeking collaborative outreach with the Army University can contact Craig Chandler, 913-684-7478, craig.a.chandler4.civ@mail.mil.
