FORT BELVOIR, Va. (March 16, 2018)--Award-winning Army AL&T magazine announced today the winners of its annual "ALTies" honors, celebrating the best article, commentary, graphic, ad and photograph that appeared in the magazine in 2017.

Seung kook "Sunny" Burns and James Zunino from the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) won Army AL&T's inaugural Readers' Choice Award, given by the readers of Army AL&T's magazine to the year's most-read article. Their submission, "Rambo's Premiere," about the first successful firing of 3-D printed ammunition from a 3-D printed grenade launcher, was far and away the most popular article of 2017, reaching more than 6,380 readers on our news outlets alone.

The Program Executive Office for Command, Control and Communications -- Tactical (PEO C3T) was the only multiple winner this year, picking up two ALTies. Lt. Col. Mark Henderson won Best Article for his "Technical Manuals That Work," published in the July -- September 2017 issue of Army AL&T, while Sandra Lindecamp, Elizabeth A. Keele and Dan Lafontaine won Best Article Runner-up for their "Give More, Get More," article in the October -- December 2017 issue.

This year marked the highest level of participation in the five-year history of the awards, with more than 5,600 votes tallied. While a number of Army AL&T's articles are staff-written, most come from the subject matter experts of the Army Acquisition Workforce. It is these articles that were eligible for the ALTies.

"The ALTies recognize not only the best stories, photographs and graphics submitted by contributors throughout the year, but those items that had the most impact on our readers as well," said Editor-in-Chief Nelson McCouch III. "Unique in the magazine world, our contributors are not staff writers or photographers, but subject matter experts who share their expertise and experiences with their fellow acquisition workforce members. To be selected as an ALTies winner is peer recognition at its best!"
