KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany -- The Soldiers of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command are assuring their North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies their commitment to build a strong Europe, through participation at the quarterly Joint Logistic Sustainment Group conference held at the Citadel in Lille, France May 3-4, sponsored by the Rapid Reaction Force-France.

Lt. Col. Dean Huard, Material Management Branch Chief, from Support Operations, represented Team 21 at the conference.

"The conference was an opportunity for senior leadership to compare notes and discuss how each country operates their concepts of the JLSG in order to share best practices and procedures," said Huard.

The two-day conference also welcomed logisticians from eight additional NATO countries that included France, Greece, Hungry, Poland, Romania, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

The Joint Logistics Support Group's mission is to ensure theatre-level logistics support and military engineering support to NATO forces by employing organic Combat Support and Combat Service Support capabilities in order facilitate a Safe and Secure Environment and Freedom of Movement.

While in attendance, Huard participated in training sessions centered on learning more about the JLSG Headquarters capability development, the importance of interoperability Logistic Command and Control Architecture, socialization of new logistic computer systems as well as a comprehensive review of current NATO Sustainment doctrine.

"Anytime, we are able to work with our NATO partners is important to the sustainment enterprise," Huard said. "As we enter the deter phase in Europe, now more than ever we need to open the dialogue with our logistics counterparts so we are prepared for the possibility of a contingency operation."
