Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) celebrates 70 years

There are 48 schools across Japan, Korea, and Guam, serving more than 23,000 military-connected students and families. DoDEA enters its 70th year of operation, armed with a proud workforce of 3,000-plus staff and faculty taking care of military communities all over the world.

This tradition actually began more than 70 years ago on a small scale in Korea in November 1945 when the first military dependents school was established in Korea at the old Air Base, Yongsan, with 99 students enrolled. Today, more than 200 faculty and staff work daily to create a learning environment of learning excellence, civic values and meritorious achievement for the more than 1,500 students currently enrolled in Seoul American Elementary, Middle and High Schools.
