SCHWEINFURT, Germany (June 21, 2013) -- Looking back on the year since the last Army birthday, Schweinfurt has undergone enormous change. Looking forward, change will continue, but the Army remains committed to the readiness, training and advancement of its Soldiers and Family members…the Army goes rolling along!
Two hundred thirty-eight years ago, our nation's leaders established the Continental Army, beginning a rich heritage of successfully defending this great country and its citizens. Following more than 12 years of war, the Army remains committed to the readiness, training and advancement of the Army through the Army initiatives: Ready and Resilient, The Army Profession and Soldier for Life.
With closure 2014 nearing and so much transition occurring, the Army birthday continues to bring the community together and remind us that no matter what changes are looming, we are a community bigger then ourselves.
This 238th birthday commemorates America's Army -- Soldiers, Families and civilians -- who are achieving a level of excellence that is truly Army Strong.
Schweinfurt units and community members came together here June 13 in the Andrus Garden at Ledward Barracks to celebrate the Army's 238th birthday.
"As our nation faces fiscal uncertainty, difficult times, and though decisions," said Lt. Col. Scott Peterson, commander of the 18th Engineer Brigade, in his remarks, "I look out into the ranks and there you stand -- Soldiers, civilians and Families -- unwavering, ready and resilient, in defense of our nation's flag and all that it stands for: equality, opportunity and freedom."
