FORT SILL, Okla. -- The 2013 intramural basketball schedule wrapped up its regular season March 14 as top teams prepared for the playoffs.

In the early game, C Battery, 1st Battalion, 78th Field Artillery overwhelmed 1st Battalion, 14th Field Artillery 64-40. The C cells' Mac Johnson dominated down low scoring 15 points. James Copeland complemented his teammate hitting from outside or driving into the paint to net 15 points of his own. C/1-78th FA finished atop the Easter Conference with an 8-1 record.

Quentin Johnson paced 1-14th FA with 15 points. Despite giving up several inches to taller C/1-78th FA defenders, the 1-14th FA guard attacked the paint and even secured several rebounds. Rashawn Morris added seven points.

March 18 playoffs

Ten teams squared off in the intramural basketball "second season" playoffs at Rinehart Fitness Center.

The format -- single elimination -- led to some quick and decisive contests; others ended in somewhat of a shock when compared to regular season records.

The finals were March 20 and will be covered in the March 28 Cannoneer.

A/1-56 vs. 168 BSB

At one point in the regular season 168th Brigade Support Battalion looked like one of the team's that would challenge in the finals. However, A Battery, 1st Battalion, 56th Air Defense Artillery put an end to that notion. The air defenders rode Carlo Sandiego's 14 points to oust the BSB men 50-40. Brett Bernier tossed in a dozen.

Cody Gardner's 12 points led 168th BSB.

H/2-6 ADA vs. C/1-78 FA

C/1-78th FA continued its winning ways with an opening round victory, 61-45, over Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 6th ADA.

Mac Johnson again poured in 15 points, and Justin Wiggins added 13 to lead the field artillerymen.

Tavara Robertson's 14 and Malcolm Weston's eight points led the air defenders.

H/31 ADA vs. H/2-5 FA

James Davis ignited a second-half rally as HHB, 31st ADA Brigade overcame a seven-point HHB, 2nd Battalion, 5th Field Artillery lead and win in a nail-biter 59-56.

Davis knocked down nine points in the second half and 13 overall for the game. Stanley Atkins added 12 points.

Anteragious Bolton's three points for each letter in his first name led 2-5th FA.

H/2-2 FA vs. DFAC

Michael Edwards caught fire in the second half when he scored 14 of his team-high 20 points to lead HHB/2-2nd FA to a 52-35 win of the fighting Dining Facility Chefs. Damien Carter cut the nets for 14 points.

Fernando Taylor's 11 points topped the Chefs; Vincent Hodge added 10.

100 BSB vs. H/31 ADA

100th Brigade Support Battalion led the regular season in the Eastern Conference amassing a 9-1 record, but fell on hard times in the post season.

The brigade supporters opened with an ice cold first half as they only netted 11 points as HHB, 31st ADA Brigade built a commanding lead and went on to win in convincing fashion, 50-34.

James Davis led the way with 13 points; Anthony Thompson added 11.

Zackery Brown led BSB with 10 points, and Chris McCoy had nine.

March 19

A/1-56 ADA vs. H/31 ADA

Three scorers carried the day for A/1-56th ADA as they slipped by HHB/31st ADA Brigade 52-48 to earn a berth in the finals.

Jon Jackson nailed a team-high 19 points, Branson Benefield added a baker's dozen, and Carlo Sandiego proved adept from the foul line hitting six of nine free throws and nine points overall.

H/2-2 FA vs. C/1-78 FA

HHB, 2-2nd FA played a smothering defense taking C/1-78th big man Mac Johnson right out of the game as they cruised to a 67-53 winner.

Complementing the 2-2nd FA zone defense that denied 1-78th FA offensive rebounds, Damien Carter proved to be an offensive weapon 1-78th FA defenders could not counter. Carter either worked around screens and hit medium range jumpers from around the foul line or drove to the basket and earned trips to the free throw line.

Overall, he scored 24 points for the victors. Harvey Shaw and Justin Willis each added 11 points.

Johnson could only find the bottom of the basket three times for six points. Jabaron Nettles hit for 18 points, and James Copeland added 13.
