The team effort within the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle facility at Red River Army Depot was recently recognized for not only getting the job done but doing it ahead of the time planned for it. The employees completed the MRAP Capsule 10/20 repair program one month before the program was scheduled to be complete.

RRAD Commander Col. Doyle Lassitter met with the employees of the facility to congratulate them for their success. Following his remarks, the team was invited to celebrate with cake for everyone.

The MRAP capsule program began in January 2012 with 580 vehicles.

According to Joseph Amos, production controller, the program overcame a few challenges but was still able to beat the deadline to complete the vehicles.

"The completion of this program ahead of schedule was a major accomplishment for the MRAP team here at RRAD," said Amos. "All departments at RRAD involved with this project should be very proud of this accomplishment."

Beginning in May 2007 when the Secretary of Defense established the MRAP program as the highest priority of the Department of Defense acquisition program, RRAD met the initiative full force by beginning to rebuild the vehicles. Red River also produces the MRAP Egress Trainer or MET. The MET is used to teach members of the Armed Forces how to safely egress a MRAP involved in a rollover accident.

In addition to the repair of MRAP vehicles and MET production, Red River is also host installation to the Joint Service's MRAP University. The university is a one-stop shop providing a unique cross-platform venue to prepare individuals with the skills to perform higher level maintenance on the entire MRAP family of vehicles as well as the skills to teach others how to maintain and operate the vehicles. The university also offers training for the MRAP Recovery Vehicle, which is capable of towing the MRAP family of vehicles.
