HEIDELBERG, Germany (May 13, 2008) - Command Sgt. Maj. Iuniasolua T. Savusa, U.S. Army, Europe's CSM, has been selected to serve as the International Security Assistance Force, Kabul, Afghanistan CSM.

Savusa, a native of American Samoa, has been USAREUR's senior enlisted member since May 5, 2006. He was selected for the USAREUR position by Gen. David McKiernan, then the USAREUR commanding general.

Prior to the USAREUR assignment, Savusa was the CSM of the Vicenza, Italy-based U.S. Army Southern European Task Force (Airborne).

Savusa has served two tours in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq. In 2002, he served as the CSM of Task Force Rakkasan, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), based in Kandahar, Afghanistan. In 2005, he was the CSM of Combined Joint Task Force 76, with SETAF, at Bagram Airfield.

In 2003, also with the 101st Airborne, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

No announcement has been made about Savusa's successor.

ISAF is an international force of some 47,000 troops that assists the Afghan authorities in extending and exercising governmental authority and influence across the country, creating the conditions for stabilization and reconstruction.
