PETERSON AFB, Colo. -- Col. Michael L. Yowell retired from the Army during a ceremony at the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command Operations building at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., Oct. 12.

During the ceremony Yowell was presented with numerous awards, among them were the Legion of Merit; certificate of appreciation from President Obama; letter of appreciation from the Canadian Army; three-star note from SMDC's commanding general; letter of appreciation from Colorado's governor; a Minuteman statue from the Colorado Army National Guard presented by Brig. Gen. Robert Enzenauer, the assistant adjutant general for space; one-star note from SMDC's deputy commanding general for operations; U.S. flag/shadow box; and a certificate of retirement and pin.

He also received several coins including one from Maj. Gen. Michael Edwards, the adjutant general of Colorado. Yowell's wife, Audrey, received the spouse certificate of appreciation and a three-star note from SMDC's commanding general.

Yowell retires with 30 years of service to the nation.
