FORT SILL, Okla.-- The Department of Defense has designated Sept. 27-Oct. 6 as Absentee Voting Week for military service members, their family members and citizens living outside the United States.
The general election for the presidency and many state and local offices is Nov. 6. All voters are encouraged to vote, especially for this election which could be a watershed event in American history.
If you are not registered, you are strongly encouraged to do so. One vote CAN make a difference.
Voting assistance officers are ready to assist with the absentee voting process for all military personnel and dependents.
You can find out more about registering to vote by going to the Federal Voting Assistance Program website at www.fvap.gov and then clicking on "State Voting Information," and then click on state in which you are registered, or consider your home state.
Voters who consider Oklahoma their home state can register to vote, or for those who are registered, request an absentee ballot by going to the Oklahoma state election board at www.ok.gov/elections.
The last day to register to vote in Oklahoma for the general election is Oct. 12, and the deadline for requesting absentee ballots is Oct. 31.
Proof of identification is required to register and to vote.
