ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- A computer engineer was named employee of the year by the U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center, or CERDEC, here, June 19.

Norbert Antunes was recognized in the technical category for his work as a computer engineer for CERDEC's Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate. In 2011, Antunes served as the technical lead and program lead for the development and integration for the DCGS-A SIPR Cloud project. This project was a major Army initiative to integrate cloud computing intelligence infrastructure across the entire intelligence community.

Antunes worked with more than 40 industry contractors and other government agencies to ensure a quality product was delivered on schedule. Antune's contribution to the program was the Unified Dataspace and associated Application Program Interface. The program aims to reduce integration times of any emerging technologies by simplifying the delivery, management and implementation of any future third party vendors wishing to build intelligence applications and analytics.

Due to Antunes' accomplishments in 2011, two software releases were fielded to Soldiers for use in Afghanistan.
